Formerly known as Eastern Explorer, this itinerary follows the footsteps of Buddha, travelling from Bodhgaya, where it is said Buddha achieved enlightenment under the Bodhi tree. Travel to Varanasi and visit the temples of Sarnath, where it is believed Buddha delivered his first sermon.
This is a private short stay package for the independent traveller.
DAY 1: PATNA TO RAJGIR
Upon arrival at Patna airport this morning you will be met and transferred to Rajgir. Enroute, visit the Nalanda University, one of the oldest in the world and said to have been visited by Buddha. (L)
DAYS 2-3: RAJGIR TO BODHGAYA
Enjoy a morning tour of Rajgir including Ajatshatru's Fort, the Venuvana Monastery, Swarna Bhandar Caves, the Cyclopean Walls and take a chairlift to the Vishwa Shanti Stupa (Peace Pagoda).Travel to Bodhgaya, an important Buddhist pilgrimage site(B,L) The next day tour Bodhgaya, including the Bodhi Tree where it is believed that Buddha reached enlightenment over 2,540 years ago. Later, visit Mahabodhi Temple including Vajrasana, the ancient railings, Chankarmana, Animeshlochana and Ratnagar and the Mahabodhi Temple which means 'Great Awakening Temple'. (B,L)
DAYS 4-5: BODHGAYA TO VARANASI
Travel to Varanasi. This evening take a rickshaw to the ghats to witness the Puja ceremony of Ganga Aarti. (B) Early the next morning take a boat ride along the holy River Ganges. Visit the temples of Varanasi and Sarnath, where it is believed Buddha delivered his first sermon. (B,L)
DAY 6: DEPART VARANASI
After check-out this morning you will be transferred to Varanasi airport where your arrangements end. (B)
