DAY 1: AUSTRALIA TO BEIJING
Fly with Cathay Pacific Airways to Beijing for a three night stay. Beijing is the capital of the People’s Republic of China and has an unequalled wealth of history with countless imperial wonders.
DAY 2: BEIJING
Visit Tiananmen Square and the vast Forbidden City. This afternoon tour the Temple of Heaven, originally constructed in the 15th Century. Enjoy a rickshaw ride through the traditional Hutong district. Hidden in a maze of small alleyways, visit a local home and enjoy a cup of tea with a family. This evening you will dine on the famous dish of Beijing, Peking Duck, at Quanjude Restaurant. (B,L,D)
DAY 3: BEIJING
Achieve the dream of many travellers when you walk along the Great Wall. Reflect on the labour required for its construction and upon your return to Beijing visit Dowager Cixi’s Summer Palace. This evening, watch a famous Beijing acrobatics performance and enjoy dinner at a local favourite place, Rose Town Restaurant. (B,L,D)
DAY 4: BEIJING TO XIAN
Fly to Xian, the former imperial capital of China. Home to many ancient relics, Xian was also the starting point for the famous Silk Road. Enjoy the evening free at your leisure to explore the city. (B,L)
DAY 5: XIAN
Visit the Shaanxi Provincial Museum and the ancient City Wall. Feast on a traditional Shui Jiao Dumpling banquet at the well-known De Fa Chang Restaurant and enjoy a performance of music and dance dating back to the Tang Dynasty. (B,L,D)
DAY 6: XIAN
Visit the UNESCO World Heritage listed Terracotta Warriors and Horses. Later this afternoon, wander through the lively Muslim Quarter. (B,L)
DAY 7: XIAN TO WUHAN – YANGTZE RIVER
Fly to Wuhan. Upon arrival you will be transferred by coach (approximately 4-5 hours) to Yichang to board your Victoria Cruises vessel for the next four nights along one of the world’s greatest waterways, the Yangtze River. (B,L)
DAYS 8-10: YANGTZE RIVER CRUISE
Over the next three days you will tour the sites dotted along the magnificent Yangtze River. Take shore excursions to enjoy the landscaped beauty of the river and its tributary streams. (B,L,D)
Disembark in Chongqing and visit the Panda House at Chongqing Zoo. Later, fly to Guilin, one of China’s most beautiful cities. (B,L)
DAY 12: GUILIN TO YANGSHUO
Enjoy a leisurely cruise along the Li River, passing farming and fishing villages as you travel to the town of Yangshuo for an overnight stay. Upon arrival, explore the town or relax in a cafe. (B,L)
DAY 13: YANGSHUO TO GUILIN
Enjoy a morning stroll to the markets before returning to Guilin. This evening, watch a display of traditional cormorant fishing and have your cameras at the ready to capture this unique sight. (B,L)
DAY 14: GUILIN TO SHANGHAI
Fly to the cosmopolitan city of Shanghai. The afternoon is free to enjoy at your leisure. This evening, dine at the Pudong Shangri-La’s Gui Hua Lou Chinese Restaurant. (B,L,D)
DAY 15: SHANGHAI
This morning visit the beautiful Yu Gardens and Old Town, take a stroll along the Bund and visit the Xintiandi area. Later, cross the Nanpu Bridge and visit the Pudong area. This evening, enjoy a cruise along the Huangpu River and see the stunning Shanghai skyline come alive at night. (B,L)
DAY 16: SHANGHAI
Visit the Shanghai Museum, filled with ancient treasures. The afternoon is free at your leisure. (B,L)
DAY 17: DEPART SHANGHAI
This morning is free at your leisure before you are transferred to the Maglev station for your super-fast train ride to Pudong airport to board your overnight flight to Australia. (B)
