Start in the former capital Yangon where you will visit the National Museum and the magnificent Shwedagon Pagoda and take a stroll through the local market. The ancient city of Bagan will leave you in awe; it is home to over 3,000 temples and pagodas. Mix with the locals to experience daily village life and enjoy the magnificent view from the top of Taung Kalat at Mt. Popa. Continue to Mandalay, the religious centre of Buddhism and home to more than 300,000 of the country’s monks and nuns. End your journey at Inle Lake where you can take in the beautiful landscapes before returning to Yangon.
During this tour you will experience the traditional way of Burmese living and marvel at landscapes that have remained unchanged for centuries.
DAY 1: AUSTRALIA TO YANGON
Fly with Singapore Airlines to Yangon for a two night stay.
DAY 2: YANGON
Tour the city of Yangon, starting with a visit to the Sule Pagoda followed by a walk through downtown Yangon, passing the Indian Quarter. Visit the National Museum and stroll through the Bogyoke Market for some shopping. Later you will watch the sun set at the sacred Shwedagon Pagoda, which is said to hold strands of Buddha's hair.
DAY 3: YANGON TO BAGAN
Fly to the ancient city of Bagan, home to over 3,000 temples. Visit Nyaung U Market followed by the Shwezigon Pagoda, which is said to hold strands of Buddha's hair.
DAY 4: BAGAN TO MT. POPA
Travel to mysterious Mt. Popa, stopping along the way at a village to learn how palm sugar is produced. At Mt. Popa you will climb to the temple located at the top of Taung Kalat. Drive back to Bagan and visit Manuha, Nanpaya, Gubyaukgyi and Shwe San Daw temples.
DAY 5: BAGAN TO MANDALAY
Fly to Mandalay and drive to Amarapura to visit Mahaghandayon Monastery and U Bein Bridge. Travel to Ava where you will board a horse-drawn carriage to visit Bagaya Monastery and the remains of the Royal Palace. Later, explore Sagaing Hill and its white pagodas and monasteries.
DAY 6: MANDALAY
Transfer to the jetty this morning and board a boat to Mingun, where you will see Mantara Pagoda. Return to Mandalay and visit Mahamuni Pagoda, Kuthodaw Pagoda and Golden Palace Monastery. Watch the sunset from the top of Mandalay Hill.
DAY 7: MANDALAY TO KALAW - PINDAYA
After breakfast fly to Heho and drive to Pindaya to see the Pindaya caves which house thousands of Buddha images. Visit a home-run umbrella and mulberry paper production business, then drive to the town of Kalaw, which was a former British hill station.
DAY 8: KALAW TO NYAUNG SHWE (INLE LAKE)
Spend this morning sightseeing in Kalaw, seeing the Pinmagon Monastery, the King Church and wander through the town and local market. Continue to Nyaung Shwe and travel by boat to your hotel located near Inle Lake.
DAY 9: NYAUNG SHWE (INLE LAKE)
Take a boat trip on the sprawling Inle Lake this morning observing the beautiful surroundings en route to the floating gardens. After lunch, visit the small village of Indein, where the Indein Pagoda complex is located. Also, visit a weaving village and the famous Phaung Daw Oo Pagoda.
DAY 10: NYAUNG SHWE (INLE LAKE) TO YANGON
Return to Nyaung Shwe by boat and transfer to Heho airport for your flight to Yangon. Upon arrival, visit Gaba Aye Pagoda, Mahapasana cave, Botataung Pagoda and Nanthida Jetty. This evening wander through Chinatown and the night market.
DAY 11: DEPART YANGON
Enjoy the morning free at your leisure before you are transferred to Yangon airport to board your overnight flight to Australia
DAY 12: ARRIVE AUSTRALIA
Arrive home today.
