Travel to the port city of Trincomalee, located on the east coast of Sri Lanka. Home to ancient relics, beautiful beaches and a strong British and Dutch influence, Trincomalee is a melting pot of culture and natural beauty.
This is a private short stay package for the independent traveller.
DAY 1: ARRIVE COLOMBO
Make your own way to your Colombo hotel. The rest of the day is free at your leisure.
DAY 2: COLOMBO
Tour Colombo, including the Fort District and Pettah Market. Visit a Hindu and Buddhist temple, the Dutch Wolvendhal Church and the Colombo and Natural History Museums. (B,L)
DAY 3: COLOMBO TO DAMBULLA VIA SIGIRIYA
Depart for Dambulla, visiting Sigiriya en route and climb the UNESCO World Heritage listed Rock Fortress or ‘Lion Rock’. Continue to Dambulla and have the afternoon free at your leisure. (B,L,D)
DAY 4: DAMBULLA TO TRINCOMALEE VIA HIRIWADUNNA
Travel to the village of Hiriwadunna and take a walk along the banks of an artifi cial reservoir (approximately 3 hours). Pass local farms, villages and dense bush where you may spot elephants and monkeys. Proceed to Trincomalee. (B,L,D)
DAY 5: TRINCOMALEE
Embark on a morning whale watching cruise, beginning at Foul Point and sailing south. (B,L)
DAY 6: TRINCOMALEE TO KANDY VIA DAMBULLA
Travel back to Dambulla and tour the Rock Temple, built in the 3rd Century BC. Continue to Kandy visiting a spice garden at Matale en route. Upon arrival, visit the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic, one of the most sacred Buddhist sites in the world. This evening, watch a cultural dance performance while enjoying dinner. (B,L,D)
DAY 7: KANDY TO COLOMBO
After check-out this morning you will be transferred to your Colombo hotel or Colombo airport where your arrangements end. (B)
Note: Whale watching in Trincomalee is available from May to November only. Outside of these months, touring of Kinniya Bridge will be offered.
