Laos is a peaceful country, dominated by incredible mountains, stunning scenery and thundering waterfalls. Cruise along the Mekong River and enjoy a swim at the extraordinary Kuangsi Waterfalls. From the buzz and excitement of Bangkok to the serenity of sacred temples in Vientiane, you will be captivated by all you see on this adventure. TOUR ITINERARYDAY 1: AUSTRALIA TO BANGKOKFly with QANTAS Airways to Bangkok for a two night stay. DAY 2: BANGKOKEmbark on a city tour, visiting Wat Pho and the Grand Palace. Board a longtail boat for a ride along the Chao Phraya River to the Pak Klong Talaat Flower Market and take a walk through Chinatown. DAY 3: BANGKOK TO CHIANG MAIRise early this morning and visit the Damnoen Saduak Floating Market and Railway Track Market in Samut Songkram. This afternoon you will transfer to the railway station to board your overnight sleeper train to Chiang Mai. DAY 4: CHIANG MAIArrive in Chiang Mai this morning. Spend some time at an orphanage and a handicraft village. Later, visit Wat Doi Suthep in time for sunset. This evening enjoy a traditional performance of ancient music and dance from Northern Thailand and explore the colourful night market. DAY 5: CHIANG MAI TO H’MONG HILLTRIBE LODGETravel to the H’mong hilltribes by minivan. You will stay overnight in a hilltribe lodge where you will feast on a local BBQ dinner and watch a cultural performance. DAY 6: H’MONG HILLTRIBE LODGE TO CHIANG RAIVisit the Chiang Dao Elephant Camp this morning. Take an elephant ride followed by a gentle bamboo raft down the Mae Ping River. Transfer to Thaton and board a longtail boat for a cruise along the Mae Kok River to Baan Pha Tai, where you will continue by road to Chiang Rai. DAY 7: CHIANG RAI TO PAKBENGThis morning you will bid farewell to Thailand and cross over the border at Huay Xai into Laos. Cruise to Pakbeng, stopping along the way at the minority villages of Lao Lu at Ban Pak Tha and Ban Houei Lumpane. DAY 8: PAKBENG TO LUANG PRABANGTravel downstream along the Mekong River, stopping at Ban Khok Ek, a traditional Lao village, en route. After lunch on board you will visit Lao Loum villages to learn the process of making rice alcohol. Later, explore the sacred Buddha caves of Tham Ting and Tham Phoume at Pak Ou before continuing to the UNESCO World Heritage listed city of Luang Prabang. DAY 9: LUANG PRABANGTour the city by tuk-tuk, visiting Wat Mai, Wat Sensoukarahm, Wat Xieng Thong and Wat Visoun, the holiest temple in the city. At sunset you will climb Phousi Hill for panoramic views of the city. This evening you will have free time to wander through the colourful hilltribe market. DAY 10: LUANG PRABANGThis morning view the Buddhist ceremony of Takbat followed by a visit to the fresh food market. Continue to the National Museum, which was formerly the Royal Palace. Afterwards drive west to Kuangsi Waterfalls, visiting a local market en route. Take a walk through the forest and relax at the waterfalls before returning to Luang Prabang, stopping at Ock Pop Tok Weaving Centre. DAY 11: LUANG PRABANG TO VANG VIENGTravel to Vang Vieng. Stop along the way in Phoukoune to visit the local market and the village of Pathang, which boasts stunning views of the surrounding karst mountains. DAY 12: VANG VIENG TO VIENTIANEThis morning you will visit Tham Chang Cave, which off ers great views of the surrounding countryside. Afterwards you will travel to Vientiane, the capital of Laos. DAY 13: VIENTIANEExplore Vientiane, visiting Thongkhankham Market, Wat Si Saket and Wat Phra Keo, the former Royal Temple. This afternoon you will see That Luang Stupa, the most revered shrine in Laos, and Patuxai Victory Monument. At dinner this evening, enjoy a traditional Lao music and dance performance. DAY 14: DEPART VIENTIANEThis morning is free at your leisure before you are transferred to Vientiane airport to board your overnight flight to Australia (via Bangkok).
