This tour will take you on a unique experience through these great lands; a world largely untouched by modern civilisation, which will continually amaze and inspire you.
Due to local unrest the Chinese Government has closed the district that this itinerary travels through in Eastern Tibet along the Tea Horse Road. As it is not known when this situation will change Tibetan Dreams is now operating on an alternative itinerary which you can see below:
DAYS 1-2: AUSTRALIA TO KUNMING
Fly overnight with Cathay Pacific to Kunming for a two-night stay. Sample the delicious local specialty, ‘Across the Bridge Noodles’, for your welcome dinner.
DAY 3: KUNMING
Today enjoy a full-day tour of the picturesque Stone Forest. This afternoon visit the Western Hills.
DAY 4: KUNMING TO DALI
This morning you will transfer to the airport to board your flight to Dali. Explore the fascinating wonders of Dali’s Ancient Quarter this afternoon.
DAY 5: DALI
See the Three Pagodas and enjoy an afternoon cruise on the stunning Erhai Lake.
DAY 6: DALI TO LIJIANG
Travel to Lijiang this morning. Visit the Black Dragon Pool before wandering through Lijiang’s Ancient Quarter.
DAY 7: LIJIANG
Your explorations take you to the picturesque Jade Dragon Snow Mountain. Take a chairlift to one of the high meadows from where you can view amazing scenery. This afternoon you will visit the Baisha Frescoes.
DAY 8: LIJIANG TO ZHONGDIAN
Drive to Zhongdian for a three-night stay. This afternoon travel to Tiger Leaping Gorge, one of the deepest gorges in the world.
DAY 9: ZHONGDIAN
See the Baishui Terrace, where spring water cascades over layers of white limestone pools.
DAY 10: ZHONGDIAN
Enjoy a visit to Napa Hai Lake and the Songshanlin Monastery today, built by the 5th Dali Lama over 300 years ago.
DAY 11: ZHONGDIAN TO LHASA
Today you leave Zhongdian and fly to Lhasa, the spiritual home of Tibet. This afternoon is free at your leisure to acclimatize to the altitude.
DAY 12: LHASA
Visit the Jokhang Temple, the most sacred and spiritual in Tibet. Wander amongst the pilgrims at the colourful Barkhor Markets before visiting a local Primary School (time permitting).
DAY 13: LHASA
Explore the Potala Palace, the ‘Crown Jewel of Tibet’. The palace is an architectural wonder which towers over the entire city, with thousands of rooms filled with intricate shrines and frescoes. Later this afternoon you visit Norbulingka, the former summer palace of the Dalai Lama before enjoying a performance of traditional Tibetan Dance.
DAY 14: LHASA TO GYANTSE
Leave Lhasa today and travel to the town of Gyantse where you will see the unique Pelkor Monastery. Later visit the magnificent ruins of the Old Ford.
DAY 15: GYANTSE TO SHIGATSE
Travel to Shigatse today where upon arrival you visit the Tashihunpo Monastery, the traditional residence if the Panchen Lama.
DAY 16: SHIGATSE TO NEW TINGRI
Leave Shigatse and travel to New Tingri for an overnight stay.
DAY 17: NEW TINGRI TO OLD TINGRI via MT. EVEREST BASE CAMP
Arrive at Mt. Everest today where you visit the Base Camp and gaze at the stunning north face of the world’s tallest peak at 8,848m. Then see the Rongbuk Monastery before continuing onto Old Tingri.
DAY 18: OLD TINGRI TO SHIGATSE
Leave Old Tingri today and travel to Shigatse where you can wander through the busy cobbled lanes.
DAY 19: SHIGATSE TO TSEDANG
You continue your journey today travelling to Tsedang.
DAY 20: TSEDANG
Visit Yumbulhakang Palace today, built for the first mythical king, Chang Chun Monastery and the King’s Tomb.
DAY 21: TSEDANG TO LHASA
Today you drive back from Tsedang to Lhasa and stay in Lhasa for an overnight stay.
DAY 22: LHASA TO CHENGDU
Fly to Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan Province. Upon arrival in Chengdu visit the Panda Research Centre, to see these endearing animals being reared in surroundings reminiscent of their natural habitat.
DAY 23: DEPART CHENGDU
This morning is free at your leisure before you are transferred to Chengdu airport to board your overnight flight to Australia.
DAY 24: ARRIVE AUSTRALIA
Arrive home this morning.
