DAY 1: AUSTRALIA TO SAIGONFly with Vietnam Airlines to Saigon for a four night stay.
DAY 2: SAIGONVisit the Notre Dame Cathedral, Central Post Office, Reunification Palace and War Remnants Museum. End the day at Ben Thanh Market for some shopping.
DAY 3: SAIGON – MEKONG DELTATravel to Ben Tre in the Mekong Delta. Explore the river by boat, passing stilt houses and fish farms. Paddle through palm-lined canals in sampans and walk through villages, where you can sample local tea. This afternoon you will return to Saigon.
DAY 4: SAIGON – CU CHI & TAY NINHThis morning you will explore the amazing network of the Cu Chi Tunnels. Later, travel to Tay Ninh to experience the midday service at the head temple of the unique Cao Dai religion.
DAY 5: SAIGON TO HOI ANFly to Danang and transfer to the UNESCO World Heritage listed town of Hoi An, stopping at Marble Mountains en route.
DAY 6: HOI ANTake a walking tour of Hoi An, visiting a traditional merchant’s home, the Japanese Covered Bridge, Hoi An Market and a local Chinese temple.
DAY 7: HOI AN TO HUEView the scenic Hai Van Pass before entering the Hai Van Tunnel and continuing the drive to Hue. This afternoon take a cyclo to the Imperial Citadel and the Forbidden Purple City.
DAY 8: HUECruise along the Perfume River to Thien Mu Pagoda. Travel to An Thien House, the original residence of Emperor Tu Duc’s daughter and later, visit the UNESCO World Heritage listed Royal Tomb of Minh Mang.
DAY 9: HUE TO HANOIFly to Hanoi and visit the Fine Arts Museum. Later, explore Hanoi’s bustling Old Quarter.
DAY 10: HANOI – HALONG BAYTravel to the ‘Jewel in the Crown of Vietnam’, Halong Bay. Cruise around the emerald waters, taking in the spectacular scenery, before returning to Hanoi.
DAY 11: HANOIVisit Ho Chi Minh Complex, where you will see the Humble House on Stilts and One Pillar Pagoda. Afterwards drive to the Temple of Literature. This afternoon enjoy a performance of the famous Water Puppets.
DAY 12: HANOI TO CHENGDUBid farewell to Vietnam and embark on your Chinese adventure. Fly to Chengdu and this evening you will sample Sichuan cuisine.
DAY 13: CHENGDU TO GUILINExplore the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding, wander through the People’s Park and Wide and Narrow Alleys, preserved from the Qing Dynasty. In the evening fly to one of China’s most beautiful cities, Guilin.
DAY 14: GUILINVisit Mt. Diecai for panoramic views of the surrounding karst landscape of Guilin. Later visit the Reed Flute Caves.
DAY 15: GUILIN TO YANGSHUORelax on a Li River cruise as you travel to the town of Yangshuo for a two night stay. Spend the evening walking the cobblestone streets or relax in a streetside café.
DAY 16: YANGSHUOThis morning explore the beautiful rural countryside around Yangshuo. This evening enjoy a display of traditional cormorant fishing.
DAY 17: YANGSHUO – GUILIN TO XIANReturn to Guilin and fly to Xian, the former imperial capital. This evening you will feast on a traditional Shui Jiao Dumpling banquet while watching a performance of music and dance dating back to the Tang Dynasty.
DAY 18: XIANVisit the ancient City Wall and the life-sized Terracotta Warriors and Horses. Return to Xian, stopping at the Xian Art Ceramics and Lacquer Exhibition en route.
DAY 19: XIAN TO BEIJINGTour the Shaanxi Provincial Museum, walk through the lively Muslim Quarter and visit the Islamic food markets. This evening you will board your overnight soft sleeper train to Beijing, the capital of China.
DAY 20: BEIJINGArrive in Beijing this morning. Visit the Summer Palace and admire the landscaped beauty. This evening sample the local delicacy, Peking Duck.
DAYS 21-22: BEIJINGStroll through the famous Tiananmen Square passing Chairman Mao’s Mausoleum. Visit the Forbidden City and tour the 15th-century Temple of Heaven. Tomorrow, take a walk along the Great Wall and watch an exciting acrobatics performance.
DAY 23: BEIJING TO SHANGHAIFly to the cosmopolitan city of Shanghai. The afternoon is free at your leisure.
DAYS 24-25: SHANGHAIVisit the Yu Gardens, the Old Town, stroll along the Bund and visit the antiques and fine arts at the Shanghai Museum. Tomorrow, visit the Pudong district and Xintiandi area, with its unique 1920s-style 'shikumen' buildings. In the evening enjoy a cruise along the Huangpu River as your farewell celebration.
DAY 26: DEPART SHANGHAIThis morning is free at your leisure before you are transferred to Shanghai airport for your overnight flight to Australia.
DAY 27: ARRIVE AUSTRALIAArrive home today.
