Short Stay itinerary
This is a private short stay package for the independent traveller.
DAY 1: TAIPEI TO SUN MOON LAKE
This morning you will be met at your Taipei hotel to commence your round island tour. You will have a brief photo-stop in Sanyi, a woodcarving village, before continuing on to Puli. Visit a paper workshop and have a brief photo-stop at Paper Church. Continue to Sun Moon Lake, Taiwan’s largest lake; the eastern part of the lake is round like the sun and the western side is shaped like a crescent moon. If time permits, stop at Tehua Village and Tse En Pagoda. The pagoda was built under the orders of Chiang Kai-Shek to honour the memory of his mother. It is an octagonal building, with three levels painted in white and another nine levels painted in golden red and is located at the top of Mt. Sabalan.
DAY 2: SUN MOON LAKE – TAINAN TO KAOHSIUNG
Drive south to Tainan. Visit Chihkan Tower, originally named Fort Provintia and built in 1653 by Dutch colonisers. Stop at the Confucius Temple to enjoy a walking tour around the surrounding area. Continue to Kaohsiung where you will visit the Spring and Autumn Pavilion and the Dragon and Tiger Pagoda. (B)
DAY 3: KAOHSIUNG TO TAITUNG
Rise early to visit Fo Guang Shan Monastery, the biggest Buddhist Monastery in Taiwan, where you will see the Buddhist Culture Museum, main shrine and Great Buddha Land, where there are hundreds of Buddha statues. If time permits, explore the Buddha Memorial Centre to see the world’s largest bronze statue of Buddha. Drive to Taitung, where there are natural hot springs at the hotel for you to relax in. (B)
DAY 4: TAITUNG TO HUALIEN
Drive north along the east coast via Siaoyeliou, Dulan, Tunghe Bridge (where you may see wild monkeys) and Sansientai. Upon arrival into Hualien, the rest of the day is free at your leisure. (B)
DAY 5: HUALIEN – TAROKO TO TAIPEI
Journey to Taroko National Park. With its marble-walled gorges, lush flora and mountainous landscape, Taroko is one of Taiwan’s most stunning locations. It is a sanctuary for half of Taiwan’s plant and animal species. Visit locations such as Swallow Grotto, Eternal Spring Shrine and Taroko Gorge Gateway. Return to Taipei this afternoon via the
