Short Stay itinerary
This is a private short stay package for the independent traveller.
DAY 1: PARO TO THIMPHU
Upon arrival at Paro airport you will be met and transferred to your Thimphu hotel. (L,D)
DAYS 2-3: THIMPHU TO PUNAKHA
Commence a tour of Thimphu, including a visit to the National Library, the Institute for Zorig Chusum (painting school), the National Memorial Chorten and the Folk Heritage and National Textile museums. This afternoon, tour the Trashi Chhoe Dzong. (B,L,D) Tomorrow, drive to Punakha via Dochu-La; if the sky is clear you may be able to view the Himalayan peaks in the distance. After lunch, visit Punakha Dzong and the Khamsum Yulley Namgyal Chorten. (B,L,D)
DAY 4: PUNAKHA – WANGDUE PHODRANG
Enjoy a day tour to Wangdue Phodrang’s Old Town and market, followed by Chimi Lhakhang, known as the ‘temple of fertility’. (B,L,D)
DAYS 5-6: PUNAKHA TO PARO
Return to Paro and visit the Simtokha Dzong en route. Upon arrival visit Ta Dzong and walk down a hillside trail to Rinpung Dzong, home of the Paro Festival (28 Mar-04 Apr). (B,L,D) Tomorrow, hike to the Taktsang Monastery, known as ‘Tiger’s Nest’. Return to Paro in the afternoon and explore Drukgyel Dzong and Kyichu Lhakhang. (B,L,D)
DAY 7: DEPART PARO
After check-out this morning you will be transferred to Paro airport where your arrangements end. (B)
Accommodation on Days 3-4 may be in Wangdue Phodrang with a day tour to Punakha if accommodation in Punakha is unavailable. Ta Dzong (Paro) is closed on Sundays and Mondays year-round.
