Make your own way to your Beijing hotel. This evening you will sample the delicious
local delicacy, Peking Duck. (D)
Walk through Tiananmen Square, passing Chairman Mao’s Mausoleum before entering
the treasure-filled Forbidden City. Visit the Hutongs and enjoy a rickshaw ride to meet a local family for lunch in their home. This evening walk along Wangfujing Street where you can sample local delicacies. (B,L,D) Tomorrow visit the Great Wall, a jade factory and explore Maliandao Tea Street for teatasting. (B,L)
Fly to Xian. Visit the Muslim Quarter to see the spices and trinkets. Take part in a dumpling cooking class before enjoying a traditional Shui Jiao Dumpling banquet while watching a performance of music and dance dating back to the Tang Dynasty. (B,D)
Visit the Terracotta Warriors and Horses, one of the most significant archaeological discoveries of the 20th century. Visit the Xian Art Ceramics and Lacquer Exhibition. (B,L)
Fly to Chengdu and participate in a Sichuan cooking class. Sichuan cuisine is renowned for the use of Sichuan peppers and bold, spicy flavours. (B,L,D)
Visit the Panda Conservation Centre. Enjoy sumptuous Sichuan cuisine for lunch. Later, fly to Shanghai. (B,L)
Enjoy a dim sum cooking class. Later, tour the Old Town, the Yu Gardens and the Bund. This evening you will feast on a Shanghai banquet dinner. (B,D)
Drive to Zhujiajiao, an ancient water village famous for its canals, ancient pavilions and overhead bridges. Visit Fangsheng Bridge, an ancient stone bridge built in 1571. You will also explore Kezhi Garden, Daqing Youju, a post office from the Qing Dynasty, and Yuanjin Chanyuan, a temple constructed in 1341. Return to Shanghai later this afternoon. (B,L)
