Arrive in Delhi, India's wonderfully complex capital, for a two-night stay.
Start by exploring Old Delhi: pass the colossal Red Fort, browse the bustling bazaar of Chandni Chowk, visit India's largest mosque, Jama Masjid. Cross over into New Delhi to make a brief stop at India Gate, and visit Humayun's Tomb and the Qutub Minar, and browse Connaught Markets. (B,L,D)
Drive to Agra, home of the Taj Mahal, and visit Itmad-ud-Daulah, the 'Baby Taj': an exquisite marble tomb predating the Taj Mahal thought to have inspired it. Then explore the massive red Agra Fort. (B,L,D)
See the sun rise over the Taj Mahal, then head to the ghost city of Fatehpur Sikri, a spectacular, abandoned array of Mughal palaces and temples. Continue by road to Ranthambore National Park. (B,L,D)

Drive to Udaipur, via Chittor Fort, one of the largest forts in India with grand old palaces, gates, temples and towers sprawling across a hilltop. Continue to Udaipur to cruise on Lake Pichola, admiring the city's palaces from the water, including the Lake Palace. (B,L,D)
Start your exploration with a drive around Fateh Sagar Lake and stop at the Folk Museum, Mewar Art Gallery and Sahelion Ki Bari Garden. Later, visit the ornate City Palace. (B,L,D)
Travel by road to Pushkar, set beside one of India's most sacred lakes, used for bathing by Hindu pilgrims and backed by hundreds of blue-washed temples. Take a walking tour of the vibrant market and the Brahma Temple, the city's most important one. (B,L,D)
Travel to the 'Pink City', Rajasthan's capital. Visit the Maharaja's City Palace and Jantar Mantar Observatory, filled with gigantic celestial instruments. (B,L,D)
Take a brief photo stop at the iconic 'Palace of the Winds' before heading out of the city to the majestic Amber Fort. Later, head to a craft centre to learn traditional artistries before browsing the local bazaar. (B,L,D)
