Day 1: WEDNESDAY 13TH SEPTEMBER – FLY TO XIAN
Depart Sydney for Xian, the ancient former capital on Hainan Airlines, for a three night stay. On arrival, transfer to your hotel. Enjoy dinner with your fellow travellers.
Day 2: THURSDAY 14TH SEPTEMBER – XIAN AND GRAND OPENING CEREMONY
This morning you will explore Xian including the Xian Museum, its Muslim Quarter and the Little Wild goose pagoda including a calligraphy lesson. Enjoy an early dinner before joining an exclusive event celebrating the China- Australia Year of Tourism. This once in a lifetime has only been held on limited occasions to welcome official dignitaries in previous years including Former President Bill Clinton.
Day 3: FRIDAY 15TH SEPTEMBER – TERRACOTTA WARRIORS
After their fortuitous discovery in the 1970s, the Terracotta Army of China’s first Emperor, Qin Shi Huang, has intrigued visitors ever since. Spend the morning viewing the enigmatic ranks of life-sized warriors. See the Xian Art Ceramics and Lacquer Exhibition, and later stroll on the beautifully preserved 14th-century city walls that enclose Xian’s old town.
Days 4-6: SATURDAY 16-18TH SEPTEMBER - YANGTZE RIVER CRUISE
Visit the Hanyangling Mausoleum, before your flight to Chongqing and explore old Ciqikou. Later board your Yangtze River Cruise. Over the next two days prepare for one breathtaking panorama after another as you savour the spectacular scenery of the Three Gorges. Take a side trip to the attractive Goddess Stream or Shennong Stream and enjoy shore excursions to the Ghost City of Fengdu or Shibaozhai.
Day 7: TUESDAY 19TH SEPTEMBER – THREE GORGES DAM
A man-made marvel, touring the Three Gorges Dam showcases this massive feat of engineering. Disembark your cruise in Yichang, and travel to Zhangjiajie.
Days 8-9: WEDNESDAY 20TH - 21ST SEPTEMBER – ZHANGJIAJIE
A scenic area of over 3,000 sandstone pillars, rising from misty folds of tropical forest and cloaked in vibrant green vegetation, Zhangjiajie’s striking beauty is unforgettable. Ravines and gorges, streams and waterfalls and a plethora of endangered plants and animal species complete this idyllic scene. Enjoy the views from Yuanjiajie – the Bai Long Sightseeing Elevator, the First Bridge Under the Sun, Mihun Stage and Hallelujah Mountain, as well as Yuanjiajie Avatar Mountain and Emperor Mountain taking the cable car. And no visit would be complete without the Tianmen Glass Skywalk.
Days 10-11: FRIDAY 22ND-23RD SEPTEMBER – FLY TO SYDNEY
This morning travel to Changsha Airport and board your connecting overnight flight to Sydney, arriving home the following day.
