This is a private short stay package for the independent traveller.
DAY 1: ARRIVE KOLKATA
Upon arrival at Kolkata airport you will be transferred to your hotel.
DAYS 2-3: KOLKATA TO BODHGAYA
Tour the famous Jain temples of Kolkata, the local flower market, Howrah Bridge, Kali Ma Temple and Victoria Memorial. This afternoon board your train to Gaya and upon arrival proceed to Bodhgaya. (B,L,D) Tomorrow, visit Mahabodhi Temple, the site of Buddha’s enlightenment, Sujata Stupa and browse the local markets. (B,L,D)
DAY 4: BODHGAYA TO RAJGIR
Depart for Rajgir and visit Ajatshatru’s Fort and Venuvana Monastery. Continue to Swarna Bhandar and the Peace Pagoda. Later travel to Nalanda and visit the remains of the Great Stupa and the local archaeological museum. (B,L,D)
DAYS 5-6: RAJGIR TO VAISHALI TO KUSHINAGAR
Travel to Vaishali, one of the Buddha’s favourite retreats. (B,L,D) Tomorrow, drive to Kushinagar, stopping en route at Kesariya Stupa. Visit the Muktabandhana Stupa. (B,L)
DAY 7: KUSHINAGAR TO LUMBINI
Travel to the town of Lumbini, Nepal. It is in the famous gardens of Lumbini where Queen Mayadevi gave birth to Siddhartha Gautama, who later became Buddha. Visit an ancient monastery, a sacred Bodhi tree, the Asoka Pillar and Mayadevi Temple. (B,L,D)
DAYS 8-9: LUMBINI TO SRAVASTI TO LUCKNOW
Travel to Sravasti. Visit Anathapindika and Angulimala stupas and Jetavana Gardens. (B,L,D) Tomorrow travel to Lucknow. (B,L,D)
DAY 10: LUCKNOW
Tour Lucknow, visiting the 18th-century shrine of Bara Imambara and Chota Imambara. Discover Lucknow Residency and wander through the local bazaar. (B,L,D)
DAY 11: LUCKNOW TO DELHI
Fly to Delhi. Tour New Delhi, visiting the India Gate, Qutub Minar and drive past Parliament House and Rashtrapati Bhawan. (B,L)
DAY 12: DEPART DELHI
Tour Old Delhi, including Jama Masjid, Chandni Chowk Bazaar, drive past the Red Fort and visit Raj Ghat. This afternoon, transfer to the airport where your arrangements end. (B,L)
