Wendy Wu Tours Review:

"Dear Wendy Wu Tours

My family and I have just completed a four week tour to China and want to pass on some customer feedback. We are still amazed at the value for money that this tour offered and will be definitely considering looking at other tours offered by your company (especially ones into Tibet). This was a “highlights” tour and indeed we saw the places and things on our tick list (Entombed Warriors, Great Wall, Shanghai, Pandas) and even the places that would never be on our hit list, such as Chongxing and Dazu, turned out to be memorable because they offered the opportunity to see the people of China going about their daily routine. It took a little time to realise that what we really wanted from this tour was to get a feeling for the real China – not the empty buildings of the Forbidden City or the people selling junk to the tourists at every stop but the people one step away from the tourists, the people who wanted nothing more than a photograph with a Westerner or the people going about their daily lives oblivious to our presence.

Perhaps the greatest highlight of the trip was our National Guide, Emmanuel Tian who despite never having been out of China seemed to have picked up most of our saying and idiosyncrasies. Emmanuel did a superb job in balancing the individual requirements to those of the group and took care of all of us along the way. Emmanuel’s life story was an inspiration and illustrates how China has changed to embrace a free market economy and make best use of the people and resources at its disposal. We initially had the feeling that we would get the Chinese Government view on everything; had to be careful what we photographed; that all our valuables would be stolen etc. – nothing could be further from the truth and we had no such troubles. The hotel accommodation was all of a standard expected and all but one meal (dinner in Dazu) excellent. The 16 hour train trip from Chengdu to Xian was little tedious with the most scenic snowy mountains being passed in the night but we still saw a lot more than if we had taken the 1 hour flight.

The Aussies got along with the Brits and vice versa. Our teenage children enjoyed themselves and interacted well with the oldies and they ended up with a number of honorary aunts and uncles.

Finally, congratulations for all the local guides and to all Wendy Wu Tours staff for a positive experience.

PS Everyone we knew who knew of Wendy Wu Tours had only positive things to say before we left and now we can confirm their findings."
