Visit the ancient capital of Hangzhou where we will view the Total Solar Eclipse. This Total Solar Eclipse of the sun is experienced over 5 minutes of totality at our viewing site in Hangzhou. Visit Suzhou before our discovery of China continues with a visit to the vibrant city of Shanghai. TOUR ITINERARYDays 1-2: Australia to Shanghai to HangzhouBegin our Wendy Wu Tours group holiday to China. Travel on an overnight flight with Singapore Airlines to Shanghai. Upon arrival we will be transferred to the picturesque city of Hangzhou for the next 3 nights. (Day 2 – L/D) Day 3: HangzhouEnjoy the morning at leisure to explore the city. This afternoon enjoy a cruise on West Lake. (B/L/D) Day 4: HangzhouOur eclipse site has been arranged at the Qiantang River Tidal Bore viewing area, situated on the bank of the Qiantang River. This spot will allow us 5 minutes 40 seconds totality and an uninterrupted view to the west. The city of Hangzhou is located on the southern bank of the Qiantang River. After an early breakfast we depart by coach and travel to the viewing site (approx 1 hour). There will be sufficient time to set up the astronomical equipment prior to eclipse, and totality will occur at 0938hrs at a 57 degree latitude, the eclipse will end at 1105hrs. Approximately 1.5 hours later, the eclipse will be followed by one of the highest tidal bores ever experienced. The Qiantang River Tidal Bore is world famous and is caused by high tides penetrating a relatively narrow river mouth. At a normal full moon the bore is between two and three metres in height, and we expect an exceptional event after the eclipse. (B/L/D) Day 5: Hangzhou to SuzhouToday we travel to the charming city of Suzhou. Upon arrival we visit a famous Silk Factory where we will witness the manufacturing process and embroidery. From here we will have the opportunity to see one of China’s oldest inland canals which was built in the 6th Century AD. (B/L/D) Day 6: Suzhou to ShanghaiToday we will be transferred to the Suzhou railway station for a scenic train journey to Shanghai. Upon arrival in Shanghai enjoy the reminder of the day at leisure. (B/L) Day 7: ShanghaiExperience Shanghai with visits to the famous Bund, home to an impressive collection of 1920’s neo classical buildings and the superb antiques and fine arts of the Shanghai museum. This afternoon we visit the fascinating old town, before our farewell dinner celebration at a local ‘hotpot’ restaurant. (B/L/D) Day 8: Depart ShanghaiAfter breakfast we will be transferred to the Maglev railway station where we board our magnetic levitation train, which operates at speeds up to 430kph, to Shanghai airport where we board our overnight flight to Australia.
