TOUR ITINERARYDAY 1: AUSTRALIA TO SHANGHAIFly to Shanghai for a two night stay. DAY 2: SHANGHAIEnjoy a full-day tour to explore this cosmopolitan city. See the antiques and fine arts at the Shanghai Museum and visit the Yu Gardens and the Old Town. Stroll along the famous Bund and explore the Xintiandi area with its 1920s-style ‘shikumen’ buildings unique to Shanghai. This evening cruise along the stunning Huangpu River before feasting on sumptuous Shanghai cuisine. DAY 3: SHANGHAI TO YICHANG – YANGTZE RIVERVisit the Pudong area and see its famous skyline before flying to Yichang. Upon arrival board your Yangtze River cruise for the next four nights. DAYS 4-6: YANGTZE RIVER CRUISETour the Three Gorges Dam before commencing your cruise along the Yangtze River. Along the way you will pass spectacular scenery and take shore excursions to explore the tranquil landscapes. DAY 7: CHONGQING TO CHENGDUDisembark your cruise in Chongqing this morning and drive to Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan Province, for an overnight stay. DAY 8: CHENGDU TO XIANVisit the famous Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding to see these famous animals in an environment similar to their natural habitat. Later you will fly to the historic city of Xian. This evening feast on a traditional Shui Jiao Dumpling banquet, a specialty of the region, while watching a performance of music and dance dating back to the Tang Dynasty. DAY 9: XIANExplore one of the most significant archaeological discoveries of the 20th Century, the life-sized Terracotta Warriors and Horses. Later, visit the ancient City Wall, one of the best preserved in all of China. DAY 10: XIAN TO BEIJINGSee the Little Wild Goose Pagoda and the Shaanxi Provincial Museum, stroll through the Muslim Quarter and explore the Islamic food markets. Later this afternoon fly to Beijing, the capital city of China. DAY 11: BEIJINGStroll through the famous Tiananmen Square, passing Chairman Mao’s Mausoleum, visit the treasure-filled Forbidden City and wander through the picturesque Summer Palace. This evening you will watch an exciting acrobatics performance. DAY 12: BEIJINGIt is often quoted in Beijing that ‘you have not been to China until you have climbed the Great Wall’. Stretching from the Shanhaiguan Pass on the east coast to the Gobi Desert in the west, it is more than 5,000km long. Walk along the wall, admire the panoramic views and reflect on the immensity of the material and labour required for its construction. This afternoon see the unique 15th-century Temple of Heaven. As your farewell dinner this evening sample the local delicacy, Peking Duck. DAY 13: DEPART BEIJINGThis morning is free at your leisure before you are transferred to Beijing airport to board your overnight flight to Australia. DAY 14: ARRIVE AUSTRALIAArrive home today.
