Take a four night cruise on the Yangtze River to relax whilst surveying the stunning scenery in the Three Gorges. We explore Lhasa in depth, visiting several of the mystical Tibetan temples, and the ancient streets of the Barkhor, where shoppers and devoted pilgrims create a medieval atmosphere. Our journey ends with a visit to the Panda Reserve in Chengdu. TOUR ITINERARYDays 1-2: Australia/BeijingFly to Beijing with Singapore Airlines for the next 3 nights. Enjoy a sample of the local delicacy, ‘Peking Duck’. Days 3-5: Beijing/XianVisit Tiananmen Square, the exquisite Summer Palace and the treasure filled Forbidden City. Tomorrow enjoy an exciting walk on the Great Wall and tour the unique Temple of Heaven. Our evening entertainment will be a Chinese Acrobatic Show. On the next day, shop at the bustling Silk Markets, before boarding our overnight sleeper train to Xian. Days 6-7: XianAfter arrival visit the Little Wild Goose Pagoda and Shaanxi Museum. Take a stroll through the Muslim Quarter and enjoy a sumptuous Shui Jiao Banquet. Tomorrow tour the Terracotta Warriors and visit the Ancient City Wall. Complete the day with a traditional Tang Dynasty Dancing show. Day 8: Xian/Yangtze CruiseFly to Wuhan and transfer by coach (6 hours approx) to board our Yangtze River Cruise boat for the next 4 nights. Days 9-11: Yangtze River CruiseEnjoy a tour to the Three Gorges Dam before cruising on the mighty Yangtze River and enjoy some of the most beautiful scenery in the world. Day 12: Chongqing/ChengduDisembark from our cruise vessel and travel by coach to Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan Province, for an overnight stay. Day 13: Chengdu/LhasaFly to Lhasa, the capital of Tibet for 4 nights. Relax in the afternoon to help us acclimatise to the altitude. Days 14-16: LhasaVisit the Jokhang Temple, perhaps the most sacred in all of Tibet and wander through the surrounding Barkhor pilgrim circuit. Also see both the Sera and Drepung Monasteries. Tomorrow we visit the ‘crown jewel’ of Tibet, the Potala Palace. The following day we visit a Tibetan Primary School and Nopulinka. Day 17: Lhasa/ChengduReturn to Chengdu and visit the Panda Reserve to see these animals being reared in wooded surroundings reminiscent of their native habitat. This evening we can enjoy the tasty dishes of a Sichuan banquet. Days 18-19: Chengdu/AustraliaTransfer to the airport for our flight to Australia, arriving home the following morning. |
