Yunnan is a unique province in China that will provide you with memories to last a lifetime. 2013 ITINERARY & PRICINGDAYS 1-2: AUSTRALIA TO KUNMINGFly overnight with Cathay Pacific Airways to Kunming for an overnight stay. Melbourne and Brisbane passengers depart on DAY 2. DAY 3: KUNMING TO DALIFly to the ancient city of Dali. Explore the fascinating Ancient Quarter, absorbing the local atmosphere as you wander around the market stalls. DAY 4: DALIVisit the charming Song Dynasty’s Three Pagodas which dominate the skyline above Dali’s ancient city walls. Enjoy a cruise on Erhai Lake where you may be lucky enough to see traditional junks still plying their trade. Later, visit Xizhou Village. DAY 5: DALI TO LIJIANGDrive to the ‘living museum’ city of Lijiang, which sits at the foothills of the Jade Dragon Snow Mountain. Visit the picturesque Black Dragon Pool and wander the back street markets filled with Naxi women wearing traditional costumes. DAY 6: LIJIANGTake a gondola to one of the meadows on Jade Dragon Snow Mountain where you can enjoy spectacular views. Later, visit the famous Baisha Frescoes illustrating ancient stories of religions and minorities. Finish the day with a visit to a local village. DAY 7: LIJIANG TO ZHONGDIANDrive to Zhongdian, visiting one of the most dramatic gorges in the world, Tiger Leaping Gorge, along the way. Tiger Leaping Gorge is said to be the deepest gorge in the world. Legend has it that the gorge is so narrow in places that a tiger escaped capture by leaping across. Arrive into Zhongdian later this afternoon for a three night stay. DAY 8: ZHONGDIANSee the Baishui Terrace where spring water cascades over layers of white limestone pools creating a perfect photographic moment. DAY 9: ZHONGDIANVisit the Songshanlin Monastery, which was built by the 5th Dalai Lama over 300 years ago. The Tibetan name for this monastery is Ganden Sumtzeling. Later, explore the Old Town in Zhongdian and a Tibetan village. DAY 10: ZHONGDIAN TO KUNMINGFly back to Kunming for an overnight stay. Visit Green Lake Park and see willow trees, lotuses and the flocks of seagulls that migrate from Siberia. DAY 11: KUNMING TO JIANSHUITravel to Tonghai and visit Ximeng Mongolian Village, where the residents maintain traditional culture and costumes from Mongolia. Continue to Jianshui where you will see a Confucian temple which is the largest temple in Yunnan Province. Next, visit the Zhang Garden and a tofu mill workshop to see how the locals process one of the most famous local foods, Doufu, also known as ‘stinky tofu’. DAY 12: JIANSHUI TO YUANYANGContinue to the small town of Yuanyang where the rice terraces in this area are world-renowned. Wander through the local market, one of the most colourful markets in Yunnan Province. Stay two nights in Yuanyang to explore this unique region. DAY 13: YUANYANGHike to see the famous rice terraces of Yuanyang, regarded by some as the largest and most spectacular in the world. The self-sustaining ecosystem was developed by the Hani people 2,500 years ago. An Emperor of the Ming Dynasty gave them the title of ‘Magic Mountain Sculptors’. Be sure to have your camera with you as this will be a photographer’s dream. DAY 14: YUANYANG TO STONE FORESTLeave Yuanyang and travel to the Stone Forest region for an overnight stay. DAY 15: STONE FOREST TO KUNMINGVisit the picturesque Stone Forest where massive limestone columns form a vast forest of surreal shapes and images. Later this afternoon return to Kunming. This evening sample the local delicacy, Across the Bridge Noodles, as your farewell dinner.
