Amritsar lies in the north-western state of Punjab and is a very important place of worship for followers of the Sikh religion. The Harmandir Sahib, commonly referred to as the ‘Golden Temple’, is a very popular site in Amritsar and daily attracts more visitors than the Taj Mahal in Agra. You will also have the chance to travel to the hill station of Dharamshala, the current home to the Dalai Lama, as well as the hill station of Palampur, surrounded by tea plantations and forests.
This is a private short stay package for the independent traveller.
DAY 1: DELHI TO AMRITSAR
Upon arrival in Amritsar you will be met and transferred to your hotel. This evening witness the flag lowering ceremony at the Wagah Border, where India and Pakistan meet. (L)
DAY 2: AMRITSAR
Enjoy a tour of Amritsar. Visit the Golden Temple, Jalianwala Bagh and the temple of Durgian Mandir. (B,L)
DAY 3: AMRITSAR TO DHARAMSHALA
Drive to Dharamshala and explore the local markets. Later, visit the Dalai Lama temple complex in Mcleodganj (also known as Upper Dharamshala). (B,L)
DAY 4: DHARAMSHALA - PALAMPUR
Tour the hill station of Palampur, visiting the tea gardens and the villages of Bir and Billing, well known for their Buddhist monasteries and Tibetan handicrafts. On your way back to Dharamshala you will visit the Baijnath Temple. (B,L)
DAY 5: DEPART DHARAMSHALA
After check-out this morning you will be transferred to Dharamshala airport where your arrangements end. (B)
