At Wendy Wu Tours, we believe animals should be treated with respect, care and dignity. We recognise that tourism experiences involving animals can have an impact on their welfare, and we are committed to promoting responsible and ethical animal experiences across all of our tours.
This policy guides how we design our itineraries, choose our suppliers, and include animal-related experiences for our travellers.
We recognise that we, our suppliers and our customers all play a role in protecting animal welfare in tourism. We are committed to ensuring that any experiences involving animals are responsible, respectful and aligned with best practice standards.
When considering animal-related experiences, we aim to respect animal welfare and natural behaviour, support responsible wildlife tourism, conservation and education, and avoid activities that involve cruelty, exploitation or unnecessary harm. We also work only with suppliers who demonstrate responsible animal care practices and continually review experiences to ensure they remain appropriate and aligned with responsible tourism principles.
We encourage experiences that allow travellers to observe and learn about animals in a respectful and responsible way.
Where animal experiences are included in our tours, we expect animal welfare to be prioritised at all times and for experiences to be conducted responsibly in line with local laws and regulations. We do not support any situation where animals are subjected to unnecessary distress, mistreatment or exploitation, and we expect wildlife interactions to be carefully managed so they remain respectful. We also avoid experiences that are designed purely for entertainment or exploitative photo opportunities.
Some itineraries may include visits to animal facilities or destinations where domesticated animals such as horses, donkeys or camels are part of local life, transport or traditional practices.
Where these experiences are included, we expect animals to be cared for appropriately and handled responsibly, with facilities demonstrating a genuine purpose such as conservation, rehabilitation, education or species protection where relevant. Animals should always have access to appropriate food, water, shelter, enrichment and
veterinary care, and we do not support situations involving mistreatment, neglect or unsafe conditions. These experiences are regularly reviewed as part of our responsible tourism commitments, and we will not include attractions that involve abuse, exploitation, drugging, overworking or unnecessary distress of animals for entertainment.
In some destinations, travellers may encounter traditional cultural practices or heritage activities involving animals that reflect long-standing customs or ways of life.
Where these experiences are included, we aim to ensure they are presented respectfully and with appropriate cultural context. They are never included purely for entertainment purposes, and where an experience may involve culturally sensitive themes or practices that some guests may find confronting, travellers will be informed in advance. Where possible, guests may choose whether to participate or observe. While recognising that cultural perspectives involving animals can vary across destinations, we maintain that animal welfare remains an important consideration in all travel experiences.
We expect all suppliers and partners to uphold responsible animal welfare practices and to respond appropriately to any concerns raised about animal-related experiences. If an experience does not meet our standards or broader responsible tourism objectives, it may be reviewed and removed from our tours.
We recognise that animal welfare standards continue to evolve, and we are committed to regularly reviewing our practices. We actively consider feedback and guidance from responsible tourism organisations, local experts and industry best practice to ensure our approach remains appropriate and up to date.
We encourage all travellers to act responsibly throughout their journey and to respect the cultural and environmental contexts of the destinations they visit.
Travellers can support responsible animal welfare by observing animals respectfully and from appropriate distances, following the guidance of local guides and conservation professionals, avoiding any actions that may cause stress or harm to animals or wildlife habitats, making informed choices about animal-related activities outside of the tour itinerary, respecting local customs while still being mindful of animal welfare considerations, and raising any concerns with Wendy Wu Tours if they arise.
We believe responsible tourism plays an important role in improving animal welfare outcomes, supporting conservation awareness and creating more sustainable travel experiences.
