and vibrant Rio end the tour in style!
Our Rhythms of Brazil itinerary has been intricately designed for those who wish to see iconic sites and magnificent treasures. You'll travel with the assurance that all your arrangements are taken care of, with international flights, accommodation and all the touring listed below. You will be accompanied by our industry-leading National Escorts whose unparalleled knowledge and talent will turn your tour into an unforgettable experience.
Fly to the beautiful city of Salvador, arriving the following day. You will be met at the airport and transferred to your hotel. The rest of the day is yours to relax and explore until the welcome dinner this evening. (D)
Once the glittering capital of Portugal's New World colony, tropical Salvador is a city running to an infectious Afro-Brazilian beat. Today's city tour will showcase Salvador's best sights. This includes the quirky Art Deco Elevador Lacerda which
connects the upper and lower parts of the city, a stroll through the Pelourinho district to admire the colourful colonial architecture of the UNESCO World Heritage old town and the fortress of San Antonio. (B,L)
Today is a free day for you to enjoy Salvador independently. (B)
Fly north to Manaus, a city in the heart of the Amazon Rainforest, on the banks of the Rio Negro. (B)
Board a boat and cruise to your eco lodge accommodation. Visit the beautiful residents of the Monkey Jungle Reserve, a refuge for woolly monkeys, rescued from
dealers or injured and in need of rehabilitation. Later, pay a visit to a local family, 'Caboclos', of the area, catching a glimpse of life living in the rainforest. (B,L,D)
Boarding a double decker local boat take to the waters of the Rio Negro. Cruise along the riverfront of Manaus to view the stilt houses raised over the water and the locals going about their daily life. Continue downriver to reach the 'Encontro das Aguas' (Meeting of Waters), where the Rio Negro and the Rio Solimões converge to form the mighty Amazon. Although the rivers meet, their waters don't mix, so dark water and light water flow side by side for nearly six km before they blend. (B,L,D)
Spend the morning hiking through virgin rainforest with a nature guide who will educate you on your surroundings as you go. You'll learn about the local flora and fauna and come away with rainforest survival skills such as how to find food and water, first aid and navigation. This afternoon, hopping into canoes you'll have the opportunity to try some fishing; you might even catch a piranha, followed by alligator spotting! (B,L,D)
Take a tour of Manaus before transferring to the airport and flying to the city of Foz do Iguaçu, on the border with Argentina, the gateway to the spectacular Iguaçu Falls. (B)
On the border of Argentina and Brazil, Iguaçu is the largest waterfall system in the world, with hundreds of cascades pouring off the edge of the Parana Plateau. See the falls from both sides of the border, each giving a wholly different view. Start on
the Brazilian side where you can wander paths and catwalks that lead to some of the numerous small cascades that dance their way along gullies and through lush greenery. Cross to the Argentinian side for a fantastic overview of the falls and wander along for views of the falls' most impressive sight, the Garganta del Diablo. (B,L)
Fly to Brazil's most exuberant city Rio de Janeiro. The rest of the day is at leisure. (B)
Spend the day discovering some of Rio's many wonders! You'll start at the Corcovado, travelling up to the peak by cog train to the spot where the iconic Christ the Redeemer watches over the city. After lunch, take a panoramic city tour, stopping at some of the city's beautiful sights before ascending Sugarloaf Mountain by cable car for breathtaking views over the city, its beaches and the surrounding bay and islands. (B,L)
Climb onboard a jeep and head off to explore deeper into the city, the perfect way to soak up Rio's carioca spirit. Pass through residential neighbourhoods, green hills on one side and the twinkling blue of the ocean on the other. The tour includes the 19th-century hillside neighbourhood of Santa Teresa, an area with a wonderfully bohemian atmosphere. (B,L)
This morning after breakfast you will be transferred to the airport for your flight back to Australia, arriving home in 2 days due to crossing the International Date Line. (B)
