Celebrating 25 Years of tour excellence

Capital of the state of Sabah, Kota Kinabalu is a port on the seafront, close to both glorious beaches and glorious nature. In the distance, the peak of the mighty Mt Kinabalu has watched over both this lively city’s expansion and destruction – from a fishing village called Api-Api, to Jesselton in 1899, under colonial rule, to its destruction in the closing stages of World War II, to its final incarnation as KK in 1967, it’s been quite a ride!

KK makes up for its few historical sights with bags of energy and lots of authentic local life. The waterfront is the place to be, where you’ll find a marina and golf course not far from the traditional wet market, wooden fishing boats and hawker stalls selling snacks that are a delicious fusion of flavours bought here by migrants from around Asia. While its nice to explore the city awhile, Kota Kinabalu is the perfect base for jungle adventures, and the gateway to tropical paradise, with an array of beautiful beach resorts close by – it is an absolute must on your holidays to Malaysia!

Kota Kinabalu Tour Reviews

Review for Best of Borneo
Best of Borneo was a really great tour, made even more so by our national guides Wayne and Jimmy. Visiting the Iban Longhouse, National Parks and our time in the jungle gave us a good look at Village life and the wildlife. Seeing Flying Squirrels, fireflies, Probiscus monkeys, lots of other monkeys and of course the Orangutan. We were lucky enough on our River Safaris in the jungle, to spot an Orangutan and it's nest/bed high up in the treetop. Also to see the Pygmi elephants feeding, getting in the river, lining up then swimming across the river to dissappear into the jungle on the other side.
I would suggest one less night in Kota Kinabalu and an extra night in Sepilok Resort. There were so many walking tracks one could have explored at a Park within a ten minute walk from the resort.
Overall it was a fantastic trip. The hi-light for me was the Longboat to the Longhouse, + the River Safaris in the jungle.

Review for Treasures of Malaysia, Borneo & Singapore
Really enjoyed this tour! A good mixture of cities, countryside and wildlife. So many highlights on this trip although if I had to pick I would say the Cameron Highlands, the wildlife of Borneo and the Gardens by the Bay in Singapore. The food was good and varied. The weather was hot & humid so be prepared clothes wise. I purposefully brought longer trousers as the itinerary said to dress conservatively however shorts of a decent length were perfectly fine for most places & our guide would highlight where longer trousers were needed the day prior (only the Batu Caves as I remember). I was glad I brought the longer trousers for Borneo though to avoid the pesky mosquitos (also bring bug spray). Also, definitely take a change of clothes for the river cruise in Kota Kinabalu in case of a sudden downpour as it's a 2 hour coach ride back to the hotel which is not pleasant in damp clothes.

I would highlight that this tour has a physical rating of level 1. For me (as some aged in my 30's with a good level of fitness) I would classify it as a level 2 given the heat & humidity along with the intensity of some of the walks with a lot of stairs and uneven ground! Just something to bear in mind when considering this tour as the general consensus in my group was that it was A LOT more physically demanding that any of us expected. This includes people on their 2nd, 3rd, 4th. . . Wendy Wu tour.

The tour only includes one day in Singapore. Given the amount of things to see in this incredible city I think it would be worthwhile staying for an extra night or two if possible.

Overall I would definitely recommend this tour! Had a fantastic two weeks with a brilliant group of people. Thank you to our wonderful guides - especially Kugan in Peninsular Malaysia and Kurt in Borneo - if you are lucky enough to have these guides in the future you're in good hands!

Review for BEST OF BORNEO
Service rating : Once again Wendy Wu delivered on a fabulous holiday to Borneo. From meeting us at the arrivals in Kuching to saying farewell in the departures of Kota Kinabalu they looked after us all the way. The three local guides we had throughout the tour were very knowledgeable and helpful in both cities and jungles. We were lucky enough to see a huge range of animals while at both Abai Jungle Lodge and at Bako National Park. Also during both visits to the orangutan centres at Semenggoh and Sepilok we had the good fortune of seeing these wonderful animals.
Product : A good price for this all inclusive holiday and well looked after.
