Start your exploration at the archaeological site of Vinapu before visiting Rano Kau volcano and the ancient city of Orongo with its fascinating petroglyphs. This afternoon, visit Roihi Archaeological Centre followed by a trip to Puna Pau quarry, where the red stone pukao (hats) of the moai were made. (B)
Begin today with visits to Hanga Roa village and the temple of Vaihu. You will continue to Akahanga Archaeological Centre to see the moai here before stopping at Rano Raraku, a volcanic crater where the stone for the moai were quarried and the figures were carved. Enjoy a hike up to the crater. Continue to Ahu Tongariki to dmire 15 huge moai and the beautiful Anakena beach, an area considered the cradle of Rapa Nui culture. (B,L)
