An experience not to be missed as it completes your Petra experience is Petra by night. Seeing part of the rock city by candlelight is a truly memorable moment and one of the best ways to explore the old city. Start by walking the entire Siq (lantern lit gauge) to the Treasury, which is lit with over 1,500 candles, bringing this major attraction to light.
Enjoy dinner 187 metres above the ground at the Cairo Tower Restaurant, offering spectacular views as you enjoy the soothing rotation of the restaurant. Dine on local Egyptian dishes suitable for all tastes as you share the highlights of your day.
Stop in El Alamein, which includes a visit to the war cemetery and the war museum. Here you will learn about the history of the war as well as the vehicles, tanks and aircraft used.
Fly overnight to Cairo via Dubai. You will be met at the airport and transferred to your hotel. The remainder of the day is at leisure.
Spend today exploring the Pyramids of Giza and The Sphinx, followed by the Egyptian Museum, filled to its brim with an extensive collection of statues, mummies and treasures. Improve your bargaining skills this afternoon when you stroll through the Khan Khalili Bazaar, where you will find local souvenirs and food stalls.
View the world's largest collection of Egyptian Christian artefacts, old churches and the ancient burial ground of Sakkara. This evening's dinner is at the famous Cairo Tower where you'll taste local dishes while the restaurant rotates giving you spectacular views of Cairo at night.
Begin today travelling north to Alexandria where you will explore the city. Visit the Roman Amphitheatre, the Catacombs of Kom el Shoqafa, which are sure to be a highlight, and view the defensive fortress of Qaitbay Citadel on the coast of the Mediterranean Sea.
This morning, we visit El Alamein, the site of two key battles in WWII. The Allied victory in the second battle was instrumental in ending the Axis threat to Egypt. Explore the military museum and war cemeteries before travelling southeast back to Cairo. Stop en route to visit the still-active Monastery of St Macarius, inhabited by Coptic Orthodox monks since the 4th century AD.
Take a short one-hour flight from Cairo to Luxor, where we transfer to the port and board your 5* Nile cruise ship for our four-night cruise. Refresh yourself before this afternoon's excursions around Luxor's East Bank. Begin at the Temple Complex of Karnak, famed for the majestic Hypostyle Hall with its 134 gigantic stone columns, along with the Avenue of the Sphinxes and the Sacred Lake.
There's no better start to the day than exploring Luxor's West Bank, one of the most stunning landscapes in Egypt. Today you get to see the Colossi of Memnon statues, the Temple of Hatshepsut at Deir el-Bahari, and the famous Valley of Kings, home to the tombs of ancient Egyptian rulers. Relax as you set sail to the farming town of Esna this afternoon.
This morning, continue sailing south of Esna to the city of Edfu where you'll visit the ancient Temple of Edfu. Then sail to the agricultural town of Kom Ombo and explore the popular Temple of Kom Ombo, famous for its unique twin temples, before sailing a further 40 kilometres to Aswan.
A tour of Aswan town starts the day off. You will be visiting the man-made 3,600-metre High Dam, the Unfinished Obelisk and the majestic Temple of Philae. A relaxing, traditional felucca tour around the area with views of Elephantine Island, Kitchener's Island, and the botanical gardens, end this busy day.
Disembark the ship and journey southwest to the iconic twin temples of Abu Simbel, at Egypt's furthest edge. This atmospheric temple complex, perhaps the greatest in Egypt, is dedicated to Ramesses II, often considered the greatest pharaoh of the New Kingdom. Admire its many halls and imposing statues before returning to Aswan for your flight back to Cairo.
This morning, you will continue your tour with a flight to Jordan. On arrival transfer to your hotel to settle in and spend the rest of the day at leisure.
A city tour of Al Salt, located 40 minutes from Amman, begins today's sightseeing. Drive to the ancient Roman city Jerash - known as the Pompeii of the East. The highlight today is the opportunity to witness the Roman pastime of chariot racing. Cheer with the crowd as you watch these dramatic performances. Continue to the town of Ajloun to visit the fortress of Qal'at ar-Rabad, overlooking the Jordan Valley.
Tour the old city of Amman, exploring the Citadel and Roman Amphitheatre, before continuing to the Desert Castles. Return to Amman this afternoon where you will participate, with the help of a local expert, in making your own wind instrument – a Nai.
A visit to Mount Nebo, the site of Moses' Tomb, will leave you in awe of the ruins of the 4th and 5th-century churches, with floors still covered in beautiful mosaics. Your next stop is the town of Madaba to visit the Orthodox Church of St George and the Madaba Mosaic Map, before continuing to the world-renowned city of Petra.
Enjoy a morning filled with exploration of Petra's many caves and tombs. Petra, a treasured UNESCO World Heritage site, is a historical and archaeological city surrounded by mountains. It is famous for its rock-cut architecture and is also called Rose City for the red stone it is carved into. Spend the afternoon relaxing before the evening tour of Petra where you will get to experience the site by candlelight – another highlight of this tour.
Before transferring to Wadi Rum you will stop at Little Petra, a smaller canyon, meant to house traders on the Silk Road. On arrival at Wadi Rum, the Valley of the Moon, you will explore Lawrence's Road, visiting some spectacular sites while driving over sand dunes and through canyons. Return to camp, where you will stay overnight, for a traditional Bedouin experience.
Head north to the Dead Sea where you have the day to explore on your own. Experience one of the world's saltiest bodies by floating in the Dead Sea, or do some exploring of this lovely coastal area.
Fly to Australia, arriving home the following day.
