Udaipur provides a romantic setting unmatched in Rajasthan and arguably in all India. At its heart you’ll find beautiful palaces, temples, and countless narrow, colourful streets which add the human counterpoint to the city’s natural charms. It’s not just romantic –it’s magical! Not just because of its  marvellous palaces and monuments, but with its stunning setting, with tranquil boat rides on Lake Pichola – surrounded in every direction by the Aravalli Hills -, the bustling bazaars, its lively arts scene, the characteristic old-world feel of its better hotels, its tempting shops and some lovely countryside to explore on foot or on two wheels.

Udaipur’s tag of ‘the most romantic spot on the continent of India’ was first applied in 1829. Today the romance is wearing a little as thin as the city is growing to cater for the tourist explosion in India, but it still remains and a fascinating city to explore.

Around Udaipur the areas is dotted with a range of attractions, from some of the grandest heritage hotels to quaint castles, from secluded forest lakes, to one of the largest reservoirs in Asia. It's also home to some ancient temples and magnificent palaces, including the Juna Mahal near Dungarpur.
