Upon arrival in Fukuoka, you will be met and transferred to your hotel. Begin your adventure with a traditional lunch of Mizutaki (Chicken soup hot pot) before venturing out to explore Dazaifu city. Visit Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine, one of the most important Tenmangu Shrines throughout Japan. Take a short walk to Kyushu National Museum and learn about the history of Japan and its cultural exchanges with its neighbours throughout Asia. This evening is at leisure for you to venture out and perhaps try some of the local delicacies at the street food stalls, Yatai, popular with locals and visitors.
Begin your day with a shared scenic riverboat ride on the ancient Yanagawa Canal, weaving through the waterways and ducking under some low-lying bridges whilst enjoying the sounds of your boatman singing traditional Japanese trot songs. Following lunch at a local restaurant continue to Hakata Machiya, an exhibition of life and culture in Hakata. Gain insight about the old daily life and culture of Fukuoka Prefecture.
When travelling in late April to mid-May your adventure will begin at Kawachi Wisteria Garden (alternative blooming will be viewed outside the wisteria season, weather dependent). Stroll through a tunnel of over 22 varieties of wisteria blooms. Enjoy the heavenly fragrance. Following lunch, you will stroll through a traditional market Tanga Ichiba Market which has over 120 stalls lined in a narrow little street in Kokura. Continue onto Kokura-jo Castle and Garden dating back to the Edo period of 1602. This evening, take in the spectacular night views from the observation deck of the Fukuoka tower.
