The best time to visit Japan is during spring (March to April), when the cherry blossoms are bursting into life and autumn (October to November), when the scenery is ablaze with colour.
Alternatively, May and September enjoy warm temperatures and long, light days.
Japanese gardens are carefully designed so that something is in season at any time of year - from delicate irises and colourful rhododendrons in spring, through to late summer crape myrtles and fringed pinks that give colour well into September.
