You will be met at the airport and transferred to your hotel to enjoy the evening at leisure. The following day is free to relax and explore while guests continue to arrive before a welcome dinner held in the evening. (D)
Founded by conquistador Francisco Pizarro and originally named the City of the Kings, Lima has plenty of heritage, which you'll explore today. Start in the UNESCO World Heritagelisted historic centre to admire the colonial magnificence, before the 17th century San Francisco church and Casa Aliaga. Finish the day at the Huaca Pucllana archaeological centre. (B)
Rise early to fly to Juliaca and transfer to Puno, a city on the shores of Lake Titicaca. Spend some time visiting Puno's sights, including viewpoints for spectacular views, a
local market, a handicraft market and the Carlos Dreyer Museum, home to a fascinating collection of art and artefacts. (B)
Cruise on Lake Titicaca. Visit the Islas Uros, floating islands constructed entirely from reeds. Meet the ancient Uros people who call them home and spend some time learning about their way of life out on the water with traditional dancing, cooking and basket weaving. Continue across the lake to tour the island of Taquile. Protected as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and once a stronghold of the Inca, you'll find ruins and
wonderful textiles made by the island's men. (B,L)
Depart Lake Titicaca and journey through spectacular Andean landscapes to the Sacred Valley, the heartlands of the Inca Empire. There will be a stop en route at Sillustani, a pre-Incan cemetery on the shores of Lake Umayo. (B,L,D)
The Urubamba, or 'Sacred', Valley is home to Incan citadels and beautiful landscapes. Beginning in the charming town of Pisac, visit the excellent market to both mingle with the locals and to browse the plentiful Peruvian handicrafts. Later, meet a typical Inca community at Ollantaytambo. Above the town is an old Incan fortress, whilst there is also an area of wonderfully preserved houses, both of which you can explore. (B,L)
From Ollantaytambo board the panoramic Vistadome train to travel through the mountainous landscapes to the small town of Aguas Calientes. From here you will ascend to the magnificent Machu Picchu. Long abandoned by the Inca, it came to
international attention when it was stumbled upon by Hiram Bingham in 1911 and is considered one of the new Seven Wonders of the World. (B,L,D)
Enjoy some free time at Machu Picchu, exploring the complex as you wish - venturing up to the Intipunku, 'Sun Gate', is a rewarding climb. This afternoon, return to Aguas
Calientes and take the train back to Ollantaytambo before transferring to Cusco. (B)
Home to an incredible Incan legacy Cusco has some of the richest heritage in South America and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The tour will include visits to the Plaza de Armas, once the heart of the Incan capital of Huacaypata; and Qoricancha, the temple of the sun. Head just out of town to the ruins of Sacsayhuaman and Puka Pukara, the 'Red Fortress'. (B,L)
Bid farewell to Peru and fly to Bogotá. Colombia's capital is as vibrant as it is surprising, nestled at the foot of the Andean peak of Monserrate. With a delightful
colonial old town full of museums and galleries, Bogotá always has a cultural event on the go and the nightlife is considered one of the best on the continent. (B,D)
Explore the sights of the city, starting in the historic centre at the Plaza de Bolívar and wander some of the surrounding streets to admire the impressive colonial architecture. Marvel at the exhibitions of the Gold Museum before ascending Monserrate, the symbol of the city, for excellent views and to visit the 17th century church at its peak. The afternoon is at leisure. (B,L)
Just outside of Bogotá is one of Colombia's most unusual attractions; the Salt Cathedral of Zipaquirá. Built 200 metres below ground in a salt mine, this cavernous space is considered an outstanding example of modern Colombian architecture. Fly to Armenia and transfer to your hotel, located in Colombia's lush coffee region. (B,L,D)
Drive in Willys Jeep into the beautiful landscapes of Cocora, a lush valley surrounded by high hills. An ecoguide will lead you through cloud forest full of a diverse range of flora and fauna. Continue to the quaint town of Salento, to see typical paisa architecture and visit the workshops of craftmen and artisans. (B,L,D)
Tour a hacienda, welcome cup of java in hand and learn all about growing and processing coffee. Enjoy an introductory talk, exercises in tasting and smelling coffee and a tour of the factory. At the end of the tour you'll not only have a greater appreciation for coffee but also a farewell brew to sip on. Transfer to the airport to fly to Cartagena. (B,L)
Cartagena is Colombia's most popular destination. Vibrant and colourful, located on the Caribbean coast and home to a beautifully preserved, UNESCO World Heritage listed old town, it's easy to see why! Venture to the neighbourhoods of Bocagrande and Manga, wander the cobbled alleys of the old town and see the Castillo de San Felipe. The rest of the day is at leisure. (B,L)
Spend a dreamy day on Isla Del Encanto, one of the islands that make up the coral archipelago of Rosario – a great way to relax at the end of your tour. This evening,
back in Cartagena, enjoy a farewell meal at a local restaurant. (B,L,D)
This morning after breakfast you will be transferred to the airport for your flight back to Australia, arriving home in 2 days due to crossing the International Date Line once again. (B)
